I was seriously awestruck in the redwood forest that we visited with my uncle and two cousins. We found a little river that the boys swam in for awhile. It was a slice of heaven. I want to go there again. Maybe camp there someday. It was incredibly beautiful.
They’re just crappy iPhone photos but they help me remember the place and how I felt looking up at those trees. If I still had fear the way I used to, I would say that I couldn’t paint from these photos as there might be areas where information is blurred or missing. I’m getting over that. I’d love to do some oil paintings from some of these photos in the future. Channel that fauvist style I’ve been admiring so fervently. Try to keep them impressionistic. Or maybe I’ll just go all out and succumb to my typical desire to paint realistically, but with the added challenge of using less that precise references. We’ll see.
