I got the opportunity to speak with this terrific Los Angeles artist, Eloy Torrez, on Thursday night. His work was on display along with the work of his charming partner, Juliane Backmann, at the Edgar Varela Fine Art gallery in downtown Los Angeles. We were visiting the area for the Downtown LA Art Walk. We came upon the gallery after walking through the Hive, which was an equally delightful experience. I was totally captivated by his two panel piece called “She Said He Said.” This picture shows Mr. Torrez along with the She Said portion of the piece.
I’m working on getting up the guts to email him just to thank him for speaking with me, Ashley and David as long as he did. It’s so difficult to know what to say when I’m in those situations. That star struck feeling of intimidation just doesn’t go away, especially when the work bowls me over just as much as the artist does. I want to learn how to compose myself enough to speak calmly and confidently to artists. I’m hoping that practice will help, but I might just have to work on my confidence.
